What is Engraving?
Perhaps the most traditional intaglio printmaking process. Lines and dots are scratched, gouged, drawn into a zinc or copper plate with a variety of printmaking tools. Each tool makes its own 'signature' mark, and these tools are used to create the image (in reverse) on the plate. Ink is then hand applied and then wiped from the plate. Each line, dot, texture holds ink which is then transferred to the paper through the printing press. More at Wikipedia. |
